AFC Championship Prediction

Kansas City Chiefs vs Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins can be the best offensive team in the NFL on any given Sunday. They scored 70 points in a game this year, 70 freakin points! The Tua Tagovailoa to Tyreek Hill connection actually looks better than it did when it was Patrick Mahomes to Tyreek Hill. The Fins are leading the NFL in points for by averaging 31.7 ppg. The Chiefs are the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce are still a cheat code and they have the best defense in the NFL. What? Did I say defense and not offense? Yes, I did. I want to see a rematch from the best offense vs the best defense in the AFC Championship.

Let’s start off with the matchup at QB. Tua is playing as good as anyone in the NFL right now and is actually top 5 in passing yards and 1st in passing TDs. Tua’s biggest concern is concussions, but he’s been working on a lot of different techniques and ways to fall to help avoid head injuries, so far it’s been working out. Then you have Patrick Mahomes, he’s the best QB in the NFL, it’s just that simple. Mahomes is 6th in passing yards and 6th in passing TDs this season, but he’s still the best QB in the league until someone takes the title from him.

The Dolphins have Tyreek Hill, aka Cheetah, and he is still the fastest WR on the planet and is on pace to break the single season receiving yards record this year. Jaylen Waddle ain’t no joke either and would have more yards but he’s been stung with the injury bug quite a bit this season. The Chiefs at WR really only have Travis Kelce and he’s the TE, but might end up being the best to ever play the game, so that helps. If the Chiefs can keep Rashee Rice on the field full time they could end up with another 1,000 yard receiver and a candidate for offensive rookie of the year. It still blows my mind that brick hands Marquez Valdes-Scantling is out there more than Rice. They also brought back Mecole Hardman Jr who will be a difference maker for them down the stretch.

The Dolphins backfield is led by Raheem Mostert, who has a career average of 5.4 yards per carry, and looks to be off the Injury Grim Reaper’s radar this season. Behind him, they have De’Von Achane who is expected back soon and was only averaging a measly 12.1 yards per carry prior to getting injured. And don’t sleep on Jeff Wilson, he’s another guy that has a high career per carry average (4.5). The Chiefs are led by Isiah Pacheco a hard runner averaging 4.2 yards per carry this season. Jerick McKinnon is sneaky out of the backfield check down and red zone target for Mahomes. They also still have Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who probably isn’t the RB the Chiefs expected when they drafted him in the 1st round, but he’s still a solid backup.

The Chiefs have the best defense in the AFC and arguably the best in the NFL. They are 2nd in points allowed and 4th in yards. The Dolphins on the other hand are 26th in points allowed and 12th in yards. The Chiefs are definitely better on this side of the ball, but the Dolphins defense isn’t a joke either. The Dolphins have some big names in Bradley Chubb and Christian Wilkins who combine for 10.5 sacks. And on the outside they have Xavien Howard and Jalen Ramsey. The Chiefs are led by Chris Jones. Second year pro George Karlaftis III is starting to make a name for himself and it’s looking like both Drue Tranquill and Mike Edwards were great signings.

We just need a Chiefs vs Dolphins rematch anyways. The two teams faced off in Germany in week 9 and the Chiefs won 21-14. But the game wasn’t even played in America so to me this win doesn’t mean much of anything for the Chiefs. The best defense in the AFC vs the best offense in the AFC is a matchup real football fans should want to see, and I think we’ll get. But this time let them play on American soil, where real football is played.
